Issue 5b – Personal Flowers: A Wedding Floral Guide (Part II)
Now that we’ve sketched the vision in our last issue, it’s time to zoom in on the florals that stay closest to your heart — quite literally.
Personal Flowers: Your Closest Petal Companions
Wedding florals can broadly be split into two categories: personal flowers and ceremonial flowers. As the name suggests, personal flowers are the ones you hold, wear, or weave lovingly into your look — they stay close throughout the day, capturing all the special moments up-close.
These are the VIP blooms:
Bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, flower crowns, hair florals — the ones that walk with you, pose with you, and sometimes even get tossed into the air in a moment of celebration.
Bridal Bouquet
Perhaps, the most iconic of the lot, this is the bouquet that you’ll pose with in a hundred photos, toss gracefully at the reception, and possibly preserve forever in resin. Taking centerstage, it sets the tone for your floral theme and it is always worthwhile to craft a little something unique for it.
Bridal bouquets can come in varied and diverse styles. Commonly seen pinned to your pinterest moodboard are the:
Classic Round – Timeless, structured, a classic choice for formality and elegance.
Loose & Organic – The ‘flowers plucked out of a meadow’ bouquets. Effortlessly graceful as they pay an ode to nature.
Cascading – Dramatic, Abundant, and Flowy - a captivating floral waterfall
Minimal & Modern – A few bold blooms, clean lines, and a whole lot of chic.

Bridesmaid Bouquets / Posies
Often mirroring the bridal bouquet but on a smaller scale, some brides go for a complementary look by opting for identical mini versions of their bridal bouquet, while others choose slightly different blooms or colors to create a layered, tonal look (pro tip: this can make for very cute photos).
Some quirky touches could include throwing in a mix of textures and subtle colours to add interest without stealing the show.
Corsages
Small arrangements worn on the wrist, pinned to a dress, or even clipped to a clutch, these blooms can be matching with the overall palette or a little extra with daintier blooms to complement!

While these are some styles that have populated the market, and are probably all over your Instagram feed. Bridal Bouquets can really be anything you want it to be. Some trending ideas for bridal bouquets include:
Purse Bouquet - Shaped elegantly like a purse or a clutch, such bouquets are an up and coming trend. An option that fashion-loving or edgy brides might want to consider.
Sculptured Bouquet - Sleek, and avant-garde, this dynamic style features varied textures, and unique shapes that makes it look like an architectural masterpiece.
Single Stem - Keeping it simplistic doesn’t mean boring, a singular stem allows for all the attention to fall on this standout bloom. This minimalistic approach keeps it classy.
Embellished Bouquets - Rhinestone-dotted orchids, pearl-draped calla lilies - adorning the bouquet with dimension and intrigue, these are head-turning statement pieces.

Boutonnieres
Florals, but make it lapel. Typically, worn by grooms, groomsmen, fathers, and anyone else in a suit who deserves a pop of pretty. Modern boutonnieres has an air of playfulness with the addition of foliage, berries and dainty blooms. Many couples like to match their boutonnieres with the bridal bouquet by using similar blooms, or tastefully choosing a similar color palette.
Tip: While boutonnieres are traditionally seen on male counterparts at the wedding, many ladies of the bridal party also do don boutonnieres! There is simply no hard and fast rule.
Flower Crowns & Hair Florals
A bit of whimsy can never go wrong, and these little pieces are perfect for this purpose. Hair florals can be dainty (think a spray rose or wispy caspia tucked into a braid) or bold (a full-on crown of wildflowers).
Stay tuned for next issue, where we go bigger — way bigger — with ceremony florals, statement installations, and decor that transforms your space.
